How Safe Is Restylane Really?
Dermatologists and plastic surgeons have been using restylane procedures since 1996 in almost throughout the world. It has a high safety profile. Restylane is composed of non-animal hyaluronic acid which is a clear gel. This acid is found naturally in the human body. Hence it is fully biocompatible.
There is hardly any risk of allergy and there is no need to test for allergies. There may be some redness or swelling after the treatment but this will subside and normally last for just a couple of days. Patients should not sunbathe or expose the skin to the hot sun during this time. Nor should the skin be exposed to the cold. Outdoor activities should also be avoided till the entire redness or swelling, burning or any other slight reaction that may take place is over. Pregnant ladies or lactating mothers, and those under eighteen should not use restylane.
Patients should discus the procedure with the doctor before undergoing the treatment. Patients should be fully aware of what is happening when they are injected with restylane. They should know that some common injection related reactions may occur. There could be swelling or itching or discoloration or tenderness at the injected site. All these spontaneously resolve within a day or two. There may be one case in about two thousand who might react adversely to the injection but even this is not serious and will resolves soon.
Those who have sensitive skin, are hypersensitive or those who are not mentally prepared and have some misconception about the treatment, might have some reactions but by and large restylane is safe to use. Acne like formations at the injected site is a rare occurrence but it may have occurred in one or two cases. Restylane permeates the dermal tissue and binds to the water molecules. The modified water molecules help in achieving and maintaining volume possessing a natural appearance.

Restylane is gradually degraded and gets absorbed or dissolves without any residue or trace. This treatment is longer lasting than other treatments but not permanent. Many people are satisfied with one treatment while others may go in for ten or twelve treatments at six months intervals.
There are alternatives to restylane. If skin care products are used, or some anti wrinkle products available in the market now are applied, the skin may retain its youth for another twenty or thirty years, without resorting to cosmetic or rejuvenating procedures.
